Joulukuussa 2011 Kutomolla vierailee kansainvälinen kuuden koreografin ja esiintyjän kollektiivi John the Houseband uusimmalla teoksellaan Tripping North.
Tripping North -teoksessa tekijät seuraavat kiinnostustaan esittää konsertteja ja laulaa koreografioita. Konsertti-performanssi Tripping North pureutuu Ruotsin ja Islannin musiikillisiin traditioihin, niiden eroihin ja samankaltaisuuksiin. Esitys etsii vanhojen, unohdettujen ja uudestisyntyneiden pohjoismaalaisten kansanlaulujen jälkiä nykypäivän kehoissa ja äänissä.
Tekijöitä kiinnostaa, miten nämä traditiot voivat muuntua, sekoittua ja välittyä kahden natiivin sekä kolmen eri kulttuuritaustasta tulevan kautta. Keskeisimpänä kysymyksenä on, miten eri maista syntyisin olevat voivat tehdä eläväksi unohdetun, mutta inhimilliseen kehitykseen syvällisesti juurtuneen perinteen yhdessä laulamisesta ja tanssimisesta.

Tripping North sai ensi-iltansa Dansstationen-teatterissa Malmössa Ruotsissa syyskuussa 2011, jonka jälkeen teos esitettiin Reykjavík Dance Festival -tapahtumassa Islannissa. Turusta teos jatkaa Amsterdamiin Hetveem-teatteriin. Kutomon vierailuesitys on Ehkä-tuotantoa yhteistyössä Läntisen tanssin aluekeskuksen kanssa.

John the Houseband: Tripping North
John the Houseband, a collective of six choreographers and performers will present its newest piece Tripping North at Kutomo in December 2011.
Tripping North is a Concert-Performance searching for traces of old, forgotten and newborn Nordic Folksongs in our nowadays bodies and voices. As a collective of six choreographers / performers from the North, the Middle and the South of Europe, John the Houseband is a project, which follows its fascination in performing concerts and singing choreographies.
Tripping North explores musical traditions, differences and similarities in Sweden and Iceland and how they can be transformed, mingled and transmitted through the bodies of two natives and three foreign performers with a different cultural background. The leading question is how bodies and voices from different countries can bring back a forgotten but in human development deeply rooted tradition of singing and dancing together.

Tripping North was premiered in Dansstationen-theatre in Malmö Sweden in September 2011, and afterwards also performed in Reykjavík Dance Festival in Island. After Turku the performance will be seen in Hetveem Theatre in Amsterdam. The guest performance at Kutomo is produced by Ehkä-production in collaboration with the Regional Dance Centre of Western Finland.
