La Mer (Meri) lähestyy merta kokemuksellisena tilana, erilaisina liikkeinä ja liikkumattomuuksina sekä laajuutena, jota on mahdotonta kuvata tai käsittää kokonaisuutena. Esityksen lähtökohtana on Claude Debussyn samanniminen orkesteriteos vuodelta 1905.
Esitys on jatkoa Masi Tiitan kokoamien työryhmien aiemmille teoksille, jotka ovat tarkastelleet väsymystä kehollisena olosuhteena. Uudessa teoksessa keho avautuu ympäröivälle. Sen tanssit syntyvät hiljentymisestä, aistien herkistämisestä, alttiina olemisesta ja vapaudesta.
La Mer on esitys, jota voi katsoa kuten merta; se luo tilan pysähtymiselle ja sen kautta avautuville kuuntelemisen, uppoamisen ja yhteyden kokemuksille. Esityksen äärellä voi viettää esitysaikoina haluamansa ajan tai sitä voi seurata kaikkina kolmena päivänä.
Työryhmän jäsenet työskentelevät koreografeina ja esiintyjinä tanssin ja esitystaiteen kentillä. Viime vuosina he ovat työskennelleet yhdessä erilaisin kokoonpanoin useissa eri yhteyksissä. La Mer ensiesitettiin kesäkuussa 2019 Titanikissa Turussa.

Baltic Circle: Masi Tiitta: La Mer
La Mer (The Sea) approaches the sea as an experiential state, as various movements and stillnesses, and as an immensity impossible to represent or to grasp as a whole. The starting point of the performance is Claude Debussy’s orchestral work from 1905, titled La Mer.
The piece continues the series of works initiated by Masi Tiitta in which the working group has been exploring tiredness exhaustion as a bodily condition. In the new piece, the artists have been working towards opening the body to its surroundings. The dance originates from stillness, vulnerability, sensibility and freedom.
La Mer is a performance that can be observed like the sea. It creates a space for calmness allowing experiences of listening, sinking and connecting to happen. During the performance hours you can enter the space whenever and stay as long as you wish. One can also follow the performance throughout the three days as a durational piece.
The members of the working group work as choreographers and performers on the field of dance and performance. During the past few years they have collaborated on various occasions and in different constellations. La Mer premiered at Titanik in Turku in June 2019.
