Tashi Iwaokan sooloteos Becoming a Thousand Winds on muodonmuutostapahtuman vaalittu hedelmä, jossa henkilökohtainen rituaali muuttuu ihmiselämän virran juhlaksi. Elämänvirta kulkee läpi ihmisyyden historian sen alusta alkaen – me kaikki kuolemme joskus ja silti elämänvirta jatkuu niissä, jotka tulevat jälkeemme. Teos on kunnianosoitus elämän ikuiselle kierrolle, joka asettaa syntymän ja kuoleman jatkuvaan virtaukseen.
Rakkaan ihmisen kuolema saa ihmiset ymmärtämään elämää paljastamalla sen, mitä on yhä jäljellä ja mikä on lopullisesti menetetty. Kaikki elävä seuraa samaa luonnollista kiertoa, jonain päivänä minusta tulee tuhat tuulta.
Teos ensiesitettiin Torinossa Moving Bodies Butoh and Live Art -festivaalilla heinäkuussa 2019. Nykytaidetila Kutomolla teos nähdään yhteisillassa Anna Maria Häkkisen, Saara Töyrylän ja Erno Aaltosen teoksen Monuments kanssa.

Tashi Iwaoka’s solo Becoming a Thousand Winds is a cherished outcome of a transformative act that has changed a personal ritual into a celebration of the stream of human lives. That stream of life passes through the history of humankind since its very beginning – we all die one day, and yet, the stream continues in all who will come after us. The work is a tribute to the infinite circle of time that puts birth and death into a continual flow.
Death of a beloved person makes people realise many things in life by mirroring what they still have and what is lost forever. As all living things will follow naturally, one day I will become a thousand winds.
The piece premiered at Moving Bodies Butoh and Live Art Festival in Turin in July 2019. At Contemporary Art Space Kutomo the piece is performed in a double bill evening with the performance Monuments by Anna Maria Häkkinen, Saara Töyrylä and Erno Aaltonen.
