Laura Jantunen ohjaa kaksi Dansartin esittävän taiteen ammattilaisille ja ammattiin opiskeleville suunnattua aamutuntia Nykytaidetila Kutomolla elokuussa. Tunneilla Jantunen tutustuttaa osallistujat kehittämäänsä somaattiseen liikepraktiikkaan Somagicsiin. Harjoitteen keskiössä on intiimi, yksityiskohtainen ja elävä suhde omaan aistihavaintoon, jota harjoitteessa lähestytään keskittymällä kehon tuntuihin ja tunnuista muodostuviin tuntuketjuihin. Tunnulla viitataan kokemuksen siihen osaan, joka ei ole vielä jäsentynyt tunnistettavaksi tunteeksi tai kokemukseksi. Somagics kehittää muun muassa liikkujan kinesteettistä älykkyyttä, liikkeen tarkkuutta, tanssia leikkinä sekä kykyä tunnistaa, miltä kehon asennot tuntuvat ja minkälaisia mielenyhtymiä asento herättää.
Somagics-tunneilla työskentely on yksilötyöskentelyä ja osallistujat tekevät harjoitteita yhtä aikaa silmät auki. Tunneilla tehdään muun muassa harjoitteita, joissa seurataan opettajan antamia suullisia ohjeita, jotka kertovat mihin liikkujan halutaan huomionsa kehossaan keskittävän sekä liikutaan kehon tuntujen ohjaamana. Kaikki tehtävät annetaan suullisesti ja aina saa kysyä selventäviä kysymyksiä. Tunneilla harvemmin käytetään musiikkia. Tanssin jälkeen harjoitteen tapahtumista keskustellaan yhdessä tai pienryhmissä. Keskustelun päämäärä on kielellistää vaikeasti sanoittuvia aistimuksia sekä tuoda näkyväksi liikkujan sisäinen havainnointi ja ajattelu.

Laura Jantunen (she/her) on monialaisesti työskentelevä Taideyliopistosta valmistunut koreografian maisteri. Hän on toiminut koreografina, tanssijana ja tekstiilitaiteilijana vuodesta 2011 lähtien. Taiteellisessa työssään hän on kiinnostunut oudoista päivittäisistä tapahtumista, tiedostamattoman tiedostamisesta, ei-tietämisestä sekä eksymisen tunnusta. Keskeinen asenne hänen ajattelussaan on heilahtelu ääripäiden kuten tunnistettavan ja tunnistamattoman tai mahdollisen ja mahdottoman välillä. Lauran tavoite on hahmottaa asiat ja tilanteet spektrisesti vastakkainasettelut nähden, mutta niitä aktiivisesti tökkien. Lauran viime aikaisia teoksia ovat muun muassa Neljä vuodenaikaa -teossarjan teokset Talvi (Zodiak, 2019) ja Kesä (metsä Viikissä, 2021), soolo Idiootti Puutarhuri (2022-toistaiseksi) sekä taiteellinen opinnäytetyö Outoliini (Taideyliopisto, 2023). Hänen ryijyjään on ollut esillä muun muassa Titanik ja Poriginal-gallerioissa sekä osana Solar Noon -ryhmänäyttelyä.

Dansart: Laura Jantunen: Somagics
As a part of Dansart’s autumn season, Laura Jantunen teaches morning classes for performing arts professionals and students at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo in August. In the classes, Jantunen introduces the participants to Somagics, a somatic movement practice she has developed. The practice focuses on an intimate, detailed, and vivid relationship with one’s sensory perception, approached by focusing on the sensations of the body and the chains of sensations. A sensation refers to that part of the experience which has not yet been structured into a recognizable feeling or experience. Somagics develops, among other things, kinesthetic intelligence, the precision of movement, dance as play, and the ability to recognize what body positions feel like and what mental associations the position evokes.
In Somagics classes, the work is individual, and the exercises are done with eyes open at the same time as others. The exercises include f.e. the following of verbal instructions given by the teacher about where to focus attention in the body and the moving guided by body sensations. All exercises are given orally and you are always allowed to ask clarifying questions. Music is rarely used during the class. After the dance, the exercise is discussed together or in small groups. The discussion aims to give language to sensations that are difficult to verbalize and to bring out the inner perception and thinking of the mover.

Laura Jantunen (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist holding a Master of Arts in Choreography from the University of the Arts Helsinki. She has worked as a choreographer, dancer, and textile artist since 2011. In her artistic work, she is interested in strange everyday events, awareness of the unconscious, not knowing, and the sense of being lost. A central attitude in her thinking is the oscillation between extremities such as the recognizable and the unknowable or the possible and the impossible. She aims to perceive things and situations spectrally in terms of opposition but actively poking at them. Laura’s recent works include Winter (Zodiak, 2019) and Summer (Viikki forest, 2021) from the Four Seasons series, the solo Idiot Gardener (2022-present), and the artistic thesis Outoliini (Uniarts Helsinki, 2023). Her tapestry has been exhibited in galleries such as Titanik and Poriginal and as part of the Solar Noon group exhibition.
