Virolaiset taiteilijat Elle Viies ja Marta Jamsja työskentelevät Ehkä-tuotannon residenssissä Nykytaidetila Kutomolla tammi-helmikuussa uusien teostensa parissa. Residenssin päätteeksi he avaavat prosessejaan esittämällä teoksista work-in-progress -versiot. Molemmat teokset – Elle Viiesin Pastoral ja Marta Jamsjan Heroina – kantaesitetään maaliskuussa 2024 Sõltumatu Tantsu Lavan ohjelmistossa Tallinnassa.

A tender saw in a dusty corner, waiting for a breeze of pastoral brilliance, humid and warm. A body in stillness and turmoil, falling inward in a spiral of modesty and blindness. Elle Viies on opiskellut tanssia Tarton yliopiston Viljandin kulttuuriakatemiassa. Hän on kiinnostunut aavemaisista olemisen muodoista ja kehoista, jotka ovat sekä funktionaalisia että fenomenaalisia.
Marta Jamsja: Heroina
Tanssiteos tutkii sukupuoliroolin muodostumista asettamalla fyysisen naiskehon rinnakkain satufantasioiden kanssa. Teos kuvittelee 27-vuotiaan naisen elämän Disney-prinsessan kontekstissa ja pyrkii demystifioimaan epärealistiset lupaukset ikuisesta nuoruudesta.

Marta Jamsja on virolainen tanssija ja koreografi. Hänen työnsä asettuvat kehon välittämän kuvan tutkimisen ja kokeilun ympärille syventyen aiheisiin kuten sosiaaliset normit, sukupuoli ja seksuaalisuus. Jamsja yhdistää koreografioissaan mielellään abstraktia tarinankerrontaa liikkeeseen, tekstiin ja ääneen. Yhdistelemällä eri medioita hän tavoittelee moniulotteista kokemusta, joka parantaa yleisön mahdollisuuksia samaistua hänen taiteelliseen ilmaisuunsa.
Ehkä-tuotannossa noudatetaan turvallisemman tilan ohjeistusta. Valitettavasti Nykytaidetila Kutomon tilat eivät ole esteettömät. Rakennuksessa on portaita, eikä siellä ole esteetöntä wc-tilaa.

Estonian artists Elle Viies and Marta Jamsja are working on their new pieces in Ehkä-production’s residency at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo in January-February. At the end of the residency, they open their processes by presenting a work-in-progress version of the performances. Both of the pieces – Elle Viies’s Pastoral and Marta Jamsja’s Heroina – will premiere in the program of Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava in Tallinn in March 2024.

Elle Viies has studied dance at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. She is interested in eerie forms of being and bodies that are both functional and phenomenal.
Marta Jamsja: Heroina
The dance piece explores gender role formation by juxtaposing the physical female body with fairytale fantasies. It reimagines the life of a 27-year-old woman in the context of a Disney princess, aiming to demystify the unrealistic promises of eternal youth.

Marta Jamsja is an Estonian dancer and choreographer. Her work revolves around exploring and experimenting with the image that the body conveys, delving into topics such as social norms, gender, and sexuality. In her choreographic language, she likes to combine abstract storytelling with movement, text, and voice. By blending these different mediums, she aims for a multidimensional experience that enhances the audience’s ability to relate to her artistic expression.
Ehkä-production follows safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible; there are stairs and there are no accessible toilets at the venue.
