In Your Mind -teoksessa Anne Hiekkarannan ja Heli Meklinin muodostamat omituiset cowboy-hahmot jumittavat surullisen kuluneessa liikerepertuaarissaan. He liikkuvat italowesternien, slapstickin, Brokeback Mountainin ja Lucky Luke -sarjakuvien kuvastosta ammentavassa maisemassa, jossa kehot jatkuvat joskus lassoksi, hevoseksi tai saluunaksi. Ratsastaen, kiroillen ja taitojaan esitellen he yrittävät murtautua identiteettinsä sotkusta. Maskuliinisuuden, feminiinisyyden, lapsuuden ja aikuisuuden ilmentymät vaihtelevat kehoissa ja tilanteissa. Esiintyjät luovat näyttämölle moniulotteista tilaa, muodostaen tunnistettavia ja ei-tunnistettavia tilanteita. Uhkien, taistelun ja selviytymisen lisäksi he kokevat herkkyyttä, runollisuutta ja ylitsevuotavaa rakkaudellisuutta.

Teokset In Your Mind ja Move the way you like because I love the way you move kuuluvat koreografi Heli Meklinin projektiin, jossa hän tarkastelee elämän prosesseja taiteen kontekstissa. Hän tapaa erilaisia ihmisiä ja seuraa mikä heitä kehollisuudessa, liikkumisessa ja tanssissa kiinnostaa, kiehtoo tai pelottaa. Kutomolla ensi-iltansa saavassa teosparissa Meklinin kanssa aihetta lähestyvät Anne Hiekkaranta ja Ludovic Kerfendal. Hiekkaranta on helsinkiläinen ammattitanssija. Ranskalainen teatteriohjaaja Kerfendal ei taas ole ”minkäänlainen tanssija” ja haluaa tehdä sen selväksi mahdollisimman pian. Teokset ovat itsenäisiä, mutta ne täydentävät toisiaan ja kohtaavat välillä yllättävin tavoin. Teemat, kuten kulttuuriin, sukupuoleen ja ikään liitettävät keholliset ihanteet, sekä tavanomaisuudesta murtautuminen ovat läsnä molemmissa teoksissa.

Heli Meklin: In Your Mind PREMIERE!
In Your Mind shows Anne Hiekkaranta and Heli Meklin as two oddly comic trans-gender cowboys, awkwardly stuck and in a sad and worn out repertory of habitual movements. The characters inhabit a landscape inspired by slapstick, Spaghetti Westerns, Brokeback Mountain and Lucky Luke cartoons turning their bodies into lassos, horses and saloons. Riding, swearing and whoring, they show off their skills and try to break free of the entanglement of their identity, finally releasing themselves down a carefree catwalk of abandon. Onstage, the performers create a multi-dimensional space of recognizable and non-recognizable situations. Embodiments of masculinity, femininity, childhood and adulthood vary both in corporal expression and in the character of situations. Battling to survive these characters are full of love experiencing both the vulnerable and the poetic.

In Your Mind and Move the way you like because I love the way you move, belong to a long term project of Heli Meklin, where she investigates processes of life in the context of art. She meets different people in order to learn what intrigues, excites or frighten them in realms of dance, corporality, body and movement. Based on these encounters she creates unique performances for each collaborator. In the performances In Your Mind and Move the way you like because I love the way you move, the performers are Finn Anne Hiekkaranta and Frenchman Ludovic Kerfendal. Hiekkaranta is a professional dancer, while Kerfendal is “not a dancer of any kind” and wants that to be made clear as soon as possible. The two works are independent but they compliment each other and meet in unexpected ways. Themes such as bodily ideals based on culture, gender or age, and the action of breaking the habitual are present in both works.
