Simo Kellokummun ohjaamassa Contextual Choreography: Choreography as a reading practice -työpajassa käsitellään koreografian ja kontekstin välisiä suhteita. Työpajassa liike moninaisine määrittelyineen ja mittakaavoineen, liikkeen havainnointi sekä kokemus liikkeestä on koreografisen taiteen ja ajattelun lähtökohta. Pajassa työstetään liikkeen, paikan ja tilan materiaalisuuksien välisiä suhteita. Huomio kiinnitetään ympäröivän olosuhteen muodostaviin liikkeisiin, joiden osana ihminen on, ja joiden havaintoa ja kokemusta koreografinen teko vastavuoroisesti materialisoi, moninaistaa ja reitittää uudelleen.
Työskentely tapahtuu osallistujien taiteellisesta praktiikasta käsin eli koreografinen taide ja ajattelu voi materialisoitua havaittavaksi minkä tahansa liikettä käsittelevän taiteellisen toiminnan läpi. Työpajassa koreografi on henkilö, joka ei hallitse tai mestaroi liikettä vaan kytkeytyy ympäröivään liikkeelliseen maailmaan ja artikuloi tätä huokoista ruumiillista prosessia.
Taiteilijat ja taidetoimijat kaikilta taiteen alueilta ovat tervetulleita työpajaan. Mukaan mahtuu 10 osallistujaa.

Simo Kellokumpu on koreografi ja taiteellisen tutkimuksen tohtoriopiskelija Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulun Esittävien taiteiden tutkimuskeskuksessa. Käynnissä oleva taiteellinen tutkimusprosessi Contextual Choreography: Choreography as a reading practice towards contemporary movement ecology on vieraillut erilaisina taiteellisina muotoina, esittelyinä ja työpajoina seuraavissa paikoissa: Reykjavík Dance Festival (2014), Cité Internationale des Arts, Pariisi (2015), Tutkimuspaviljonki, Venetsian Biennaali (2015), CARPA The fourth Colloquium on Artistic Research in Performing Arts (2015), SenseLab, Montreal (2016), Research Ethics and Artistic Freedom in Artistic Research -symposiumi, Växjö (2016) ja Skulptur und Raumin Autumn School, Wien (2016). Vuonna 2016 tutkimusprosessi jatkui AARK -residenssissä Korppoossa, O Espaço do Tempo -residenssissä Montemor-o-Novossa, Ars Bioarctica -residenssissä Kilpisjärvellä ja Critical Path -keskuksessa Sydneyssä. Tutkimuksen yksi taiteellinen työ valittiin esiteltäväksi osaksi PSi#22 Performance Climates -konferenssia Melbournessa heinäkuussa 2016.

Simo Kellokumpu: Contextual Choreography: Choreography as a reading practice
The Contextual Choreography: Choreography as a reading practice workshop directed by Simo Kellokumpu focuses on the relations between a context and a choreography. In the workshop movement with its manifold definitions, multisensory perception and experience of the movement form the starting points for choreographic thinking and art. The relations between the movement, place and space, and their various materiality, are processed in the workshop. The focus is on the movements that form the surrounding circumstances in which the human body is part of. The choreographic act reciprocally materializes, multiplies and re-routes the perception and experience of those movements.
In the workshop participants process these relations through their artistic practice. In the workshop a choreographer is a person who does not master the movements but couples him/herself into the surrounding movement-world and articulates this porous corporeal process.
The workshop welcomes artists and art-practitioners from all fields of art. The maximum number of participants is 10.

Simo Kellokumpu is a choreographer and a doctorate candidate in Artistic Research in the Performing Arts Research Center at the Theatre Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki. His on-going artistic research process Contextual Choreography: Choreography as a reading practice towards contemporary movement ecology focuses on the relations between the notions of choreography, movement, human body, and context. The research process has been shared as artistic proposals, performative lectures, presentations and workshops in places such as Reykjavík Dance Festival (2014), Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2015), The Research Pavilion in Venice Biennale (2015), CARPA The fourth Colloquium on Artistic Research in Performing Arts (2015), SenseLab, Montreal (2016), Research Ethics and Artistic Freedom in Artistic Research symposium, Växjö (2016), and Autumn School of Skulptur und Raum, Vienna (2016). In 2016 the research process continued in AARK residency in Korppoo, O Espaço do Tempo residency in Montemor-o-Novo, Ars Bioarctica residency in Kilpisjärvi, and in Critical Path Sydney. One of the artistic processes of the research was presented in the PSi#22 Performance Climates conference in Melbourne in July 2016.
