Satu Herrala’s Embodied curating – a (bodily) lecture is an attempt to articulate what embodiment could do to curatorial work using feminist theorist and physicist Karen Barad’s agential realism as discursive-material portal. What happens when ethics, knowing and being intertwine?
The lecture is rooted in Herrala’s doctoral research at Aalto University currently titled Embodied Curating as a Methodology for Ethical Intra-Action – Assembling conditions for art to summon collective and transformative agencies.

Satu Herrala is a curator and researcher with a background in dance and choreography. She is interested in how attuning to bodily coexistence informs ways of being, knowing and acting, and how collective action emerges from embodiment. She has curated for example A I S T I T / coming to our senses contemporary art programme (2021 in collaboration with Hans Rosenström), Baltic Circle festival programmes (2015–2019), Make Arts Policy (2014 in collaboration with Eva Neklyaeva, Dana Yahalomi and Terike Haapoja), and a series of Sauna Lectures (2011–2015).

The festival follows Ehkä-production’s safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible; there are stairs and there are no accessible toilets at the venue.
